Jagannathan is the main character who suffers from the stigma of being illegitimate while she has taken great pains to disguise it to everyone else in the family. The show is about how these people are affected by the system which they are forced to live in. The story develops as the characters begin to relate with each other making their lives more interesting and exciting. Also, around this time, around 2010s, the characters of Velammavarndharmyam began living together in Chennai as shown in Episode 32. Velammavarndharmyam is set to return with Episode 33 on 30 August 2016. "Velamma" became the most expensive Malayalam serial ever made. The entire serial was shot in Mumbai. Sreenivasan, who plays Jagannathan, is from Mumbai. The whole series was filmed in the slum of Sion, Mumbai, making it easier to shoot without being disturbed by untoward incidents.
